TRIVIA :
The scene in "One Day Out West" when the Seven return to town to see the Judge facing down Lucas James, as Chris walked up, Michael Biehn ad-libbed the line "Did he just call me a cowboy, JD?" Nobody knew that was coming, but as quick as a flash the others followed up - (JD) "Yes sir, Mr. Larabee, I believe he did." (Ezra) "At least once." (Josiah) "He hates that." All ad-libbed.
During the filming of first season El Niņo brought some very unpredictable and unseasonable weather to California. The Indian Village in the episode "Manhunt" was 2500' and snow level was 3000'. A couple of days after shooting up there the road they used was closed from thick snow! The rain and the mud was also a real problem and cut short shooting several times. They couldn't get the horses from the paved road two miles in to the set because the footing was so bad. They also had to rent troop carriers and ask the National Guard to help evacuate them. There was a normally dry gulch that suddenly became a raging river that almost isolated the cast and crew. But the National Guard got them out.
An Internet fan campaign was partly responsible for CBS' decision to renew this series. A team of fans organized and coordinated their efforts through a Web site, recruiting the internet fandom in e-mailing CBS executives and affiliates and raising $5,000 of their own money for ads in Variety and USA Today thanking the producers, the cast, and the extended crew members. Patti Kleckner, a Chicago-based fan, who was part of the team who organized the campaign, offered her services as a contact on behalf of the effort. She was offered a free trip to California by executive producer John Watson to make her television debut with a walk-on part in the "New Law" episode which started the second season.
Robert Vaughn, who plays Judge Oren Travis in the series, appeared as one of the original 'Magnificent Seven' in the 1960 movie, playing the role of Lee.
