Plot Summary:
Car chases, bank robberies and pre-pubescent beauty queens make for gay times in The Town Without a Frown. Three convicts on their way to the big house -- Harry Sawyer (Jeremy Northam), Wayne Wayne Wayne, Jr. (Steve Zahn) and Bob (M.C. Gainey) -- make a break for freedom. Texas Marshall Nalhober (Ron Perlman) takes off after them. After Bob hijacks the prison van and ditches the other two, Harry and Wayne decide to team up, hoping to throw Nalhober off their trail. They steal a Winnebago from a pair of gay impresarios who stage Little Miss-styled beauty pageants. When the RV breaks down outside the town of Happy, Texas, Harry and Wayne are rescued by Sheriff Chappy Dent (William H. Macy) who mistakes them for the true owners of the motorhome. Wayne and Harry decide to play along with the deception and impersonate the gay couple for the time being. Things get complicated when the convicts fall for two women, Josephine McLintock, the bank proprietress (Ally Walker), and Ms. Schafer, the pageant director (Illeana Douglas). Meanwhile, Chappy is developing tender feelings for Harry. More hilarity ensues when Bob wanders into town with bank robbery on his mind.
